Dr. Harvey
Dr. Harvey came to Hawarden in 1979, recruited in Des Moines by 'then-' hospital administrator Mike Lanctot (remember him?) and a community committee of Bud Brown, Tom Tilgner, Harlan Hummel and others. Dr. Harvey knew Hawarden from his college days. His roommate at Drake was Kerry Kircher (Arlo and Jenette)
He joined Dr. Eneboe and Dr. Daggett. Over the next 17 years, Dr. Daggett and Dr. Harvey worked with many providers. Do you remember Gerard Bouthillier, PA-C, Ken Miller, D.O., Dr. Fajardo or Jeanne Kleinhesselink, ARNP?
After working in the Hawarden Medical Clinic for 17 years, Dr. Harvey was evicted from that clinic and built Hawarden Family Medical Center. He now works for his patients in the only Independent Medical Clinic in Sioux County, Iowa. You can find the full story of Dr. Harvey's eviction from the Hawarden clinic here.
Dr. Harvey was raised in small-town Iowa. Britt Iowa is located in central Iowa, midway between Algona and Mason City on Highway 18. Educated in Iowa from school in Britt, undergraduate training at Drake University and medical school at COMS. [It was the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery (COMS) in 1978, later University of Osteopathic Health Sciences and now Des Moines University [same place]. You can learn more about Osteopathy here or at AOA.
He is married to Pam (Pederson) with grown children, Melissa, Tasha, Ryan and Cari. Grandchildren, Brendan, Marra and Sydney.
"I have spent my life caring for people in rural Iowa and South Dakota. I understand small town people, values and goals. I came to Hawarden straight out of training in July 1979. No one paid me to come to Hawarden. I came because I wanted to. And I stay because I have people who depend on me and many patients who count on this office for their medical care. I cannot and will not walk away from them.
"I practice medicine in Hawarden; I live in Hawarden; and I have been involved in Hawarden. I pay taxes in Hawarden, we shop in Hawarden. As goes Hawarden, so goes Hawarden Family Medical Center."
